Durban Surfer takes ninth place at Billabong Pro

21 year old Durban surfer, Jordy Smith out shined his more experienced SA counterparts by finishing ninth overall at the third event of the 2009 ASP (Association of Surfing Professionals) World Tour, the Billabong Pro- Tahiti, this week.

The result put’s the young surfer dubbed as, “SA’s Kelly Slater” in 6th place with 2076 points on the ASP World Tour and in contention for the 2009 World Title.

Bobby Martinez from the USA was the overall winner for the Tahiti leg.

The next stop for the ASP Tour will be the Hang Loose Santa Catarina Pro in Brazil which takes place from June 27 to July 5 followed by the Billabong Pro at Jeffreys Bay from July 9 to the 19th.
