Sunday, May 24 2009 will mark the 84th anniversary of the world famous 89km ultra marathon, The Comrades.

The race, which usually takes place on Youth Day (June 16) has been moved to accommodate the FIFA Confederations Cup (due to take place in South Africa in June), has attracted over 13 000 athletes.

Runners will start at the Pietermaritzburg City Hall at 5:30am and finish at Durban’s Sahara Park Stadium at 5:30pm.

Watch out for South Africa’s Fusi Nhlapo, who took the 2003 title and who will be in strong contention for this year’s title. The grand prize for the winner is set at R220 000.
