The 10 best day’s of your winter: Knysna Oyster Fest

Organizers of the 26th Knysna Oyster Festival were true to their word by dubbing the festival as the “best 10 days of your winter,” as the annual family festival came to a close yesterday.

Being one of SA’s most popular and longest- running festivals the small holiday town of Knysna attracted families from all over the country boasting a jam packed program of sport, entertainment, and of course, oysters, a total of 200 000, to be exact.

CEO of Knysna tourism, Shaun van Eck stated that, “We have seen an increase in the number of people attending the festival this year. Even in this tough economic time, people have come to enjoy themselves.”
Van Eck described the festival as lifestyle, sports and family fun, as more than 100 exciting events were in stall for visitors which included the infamous Pick n Pay Weekend Argus Rotary Knysna Cycle Tour and the Pick n Pay Cape Times Knysna Forest Marathon as well as a specially designed kids program (Young Oyster Festival) which included creative art workshops, puppet shows and cooking courses.

Executive Mayor of Knysna, Eleanore Bouw-Spies said, “The growth of the festival over the last 26 years has been extraordinary and on behalf of Knysna I want to convey my thanks to all the people who have been involved in making it happen. You will be part of Knysna’s history.”
